Contemporary art systems reward visibility, steady production, and momentum. Exhibitions, residencies, and digital platforms reinforce the expectation that artistic production should remain continuous and on point.

 

Behind the scenes, every artist faces periods when work slows down, loses direction, or stops altogether. Methods that once felt reliable begin to fail, ideas repeat, and confidence in the process weakens. These moments rarely enter public view, while Breakdown presents art created during such turbulent periods.
